How to Ship Internationally from Canada to the USA (for PurvX Sellers)

Selling your desi item to someone in the US? You don’t need to be a professional seller to ship across the border. This simple guide walks you through everything — from getting a shipping estimate to filling in customs info — so you can ship confidently and avoid delays.

🧾 Step 1: Ask the Buyer for Their Shipping Info

Before you get started, ask your buyer for:
• Their postal ZIP code
• Their state or city

You’ll need this to estimate shipping costs.

📦 Step 2: Weigh and Measure Your Parcel

You’ll need to know:
• The weight (lbs, grams or kg)
• The dimensions of your package (in inches/cm – length × width × height)

Use a kitchen scale and a measuring tape — rough estimates are okay.

💰 Step 3: Get a Shipping Estimate

Here are two services that make cross-border shipping easier and more affordable:

✅ 1. Sendle
• Door-to-door courier service
• Free pickup from your location
• Includes tracking

✅ 2. Secureship
• Compares rates from Canada Post, UPS, FedEx, and others
• Choose based on cost or speed
• Tracking included

Use the parcel weight, dimensions, and buyer’s ZIP code to get a shipping quote. Take note of this cost.

Note: PurvX is not affiliated to these businesses and is only suggested for reference purposes.

💬 Step 4: Finalise the Total Price with the Buyer

Let your buyer know the shipping cost and confirm that they’re happy to go ahead with the purchase.

🧾 Example:
Item: Preloved lehenga – USD $95
Shipping to US: USD $25
Total: USD $120

Once the buyer agrees, move to the next step.

🛠️ Step 5: Update Your Listing on PurvX

Since PurvX currently only supports one shipping field (called “Domestic Shipping”), here’s what you do:
• Update the Domestic Shipping Cost field with the international shipping fee you just calculated.

🧾 Example:
If the shipping cost to the US is USD $25, update the listing to show $25 as the Domestic Shipping cost.

This ensures the buyer is charged the correct amount at checkout.

📮 Step 6: Buy the Shipping Label (with Tracking)

Go back to the service you used (Sendle, Secureship, or another provider) and purchase the label.

✅ Make sure the label includes a tracking number — this is required for PurvX Purchase Protection.

🌍 Step 7: Fill Out the Customs Declaration

When you purchase your shipping label online, you’ll be asked to complete a customs form.

Include the following:

• Country of Manufacture: Likely India or Pakistan (not Canada)
• HS Code: Use the matching code from the list below
• Item Value: Use the actual sale price (excluding shipping)
• Condition: Select Used or Pre-owned (even for lightly worn items)
• Receiver Info: Buyer’s phone number and email (mandatory)

📦 HS Codes for Common Ethnic Items
